Liviu Buligan, Executive Director @SoftOne Romania is one of the Romanian pioneers of the ERP & Business Software industry, with more than 20 years’ experience working on top executive positions and managing reputable IT companies. Liviu joined SoftOne Romania in its early days, almost 4 years ago, when the company was just entering the Romanian market and he is one of the base team members who helped SoftOne become a key leader on the European Cloud solutions market. Sander van Loosbroek holds an MBA and a Bachelor in IT and is an experienced entrepreneur. He co-founded one of the first digital EDM music distributors in The Netherlands and developed a mobile event solution with integrated wifi access. He wrote his MBA thesis about the applications of blockchain technology for the financial industry in 2014 and then joined Cegeka, a European IT service provider to lead their distributed ledger research and development activities. Since 2015 Cegeka developed several Trade Finance related blockchain Proof-of-Concepts and won an EFMA award in 2016 for the Digital Trade Chain application it built for KBC which is now brought to production in a consortium of 7 banks.

There is a need to provide a new transformation of Digital landscape in METRO SYSTEMS and that implies by itself expanding of the middleware landscape beyond traditional technologies. It was already seen a trend that shifts the direction to more opensource technologies like Apache Kafka. Given the fact that it needs to be compliant with DevOps principles, a deployment pipeline is mandatory and we used Puppet to match the rest of the infrastructure. To meet the requirements it was clear from the start that we needed to develop multiple classes that implement specific functionalities required for such working clusters (monitoring, security, logging). This can be used and included in roles that allow us to customize our solution. In this process there are surely a lot of challenges, trying to translate our expectations in the code showed us that there are a lot more things to consider regarding dependencies and impact when you are working in a cloud environment. You are not working only in your specific technology and that suffices. We need to expand our horizon regarding cloud instance provisioning, networking, security, tracking of essentials parts in this chain. There is still a long road ahead, learning continuously will be essential for trying to push our understanding of such technology and we are making steps in the direction of providing our best solutions to a client more in need of a new middleware topology.Paul Raețchi
