Wiktoria Rakowska is Country Manager EMEA at JobRouter AG and has since January 2015 been responsible for the international partner management and support in the region of EMEA, excluding DACH.

Wiktoria has graduated from the University of Economics in Warsaw and holds a Master’s degree in International Trade. Already during her studies, she has started her professional career in Poland, where she has worked several years in a tax consulting company. During 2008-2015, Wiktoria has gained vast experience in the field of export management, development of international sales and opening of new markets.

At the IT reseller company TechData Polska Sp. z o.o. she was responsible for the coordination of export sales of computer software and hardware. Then Megabajt Sp. z o.o. has engaged her for the brand introduction and development in foreign markets, in particular in Czech Republic and Slovakia. Later, as Export Manager at Aquael Janusz Jankiewicz Sp. z o.o., she was coordinating the activities of distributors as well as sales and marketing activities in general in the countries of Eastern Europe, South Amerika and South Korea.

Wiktoria Rakowska lives and works in Mannheim, where she is a very motivated participant in external JobRouter AG activities, like the JobRun running team.

Cosmin is a senior Air Traffic Controller and trainer with ROMATSA (Romanian Air Navigation Service Provider) for the last 18 years. Among his passions, software development takes most of his time. He is self taught in software programming.
In early 2000, during his education with the Aviation Academy, he identified the need for a training infrastructure as being mandatory for effective ATC training. Using his passion and paper based curricula, he developed the first RADAR and 3D Tower simulator in Romania. Today, all ROMATSA training is performed on his simulators, that are being developed by his company Simsoft. He is actively involved, as Chief Technology and Product Officer, in further developing the initial simulator and the new major update of the ATC simulation platform that would change the ATC training by using AR, mobility and AI.

Dr. Yamany’s industry experience also includes his senior executive role at Tektronix Communications where he set the vision and development of the Iris wireless and wireline monitoring and troubleshooting suite of applications.

Cloud native applications are popular these days. They promise superior reliability and almost arbitrary scalability. They follow three key principles: they are built and composed as microservices. They are packaged and distributed in containers. The containers are executed dynamically in the cloud. But all this comes at a price: added complexity! Suddenly you need to consider important cloud native design principles such as service exposition, configuration, resilience, health checks, metrics, monitoring and tracing.

This session is a comprehensive hands-on guide showing how to develop state-of-the-art cloud native applications with Java EE 8 and MicroProfile APIs. We will start by giving a brief overview of the latest API additions and improvements. Then we will implement, build, package and deploy our first working microservice.

Next, we will dive into the details of implementing enterprise-ready microservices and cover topics such as synchronous and asynchronous service exposition via JAX-RS and JMS, data binding and content marshalling using the JSON-B 1.0 and JSON-P 1.1 APIs, handling state and persistence in a cloud native context, and addressing configuration, resiliency and diagnosability using MicroProfile APIs.

Class Data Sharing (CDS) is a feature introduced in Java 5 to improve startup performance and reduce the memory footprint of Java by storing the preprocessed class metadata of system classes on disk and sharing it between virtual machines. During the last years, CDS has been constantly improved. In OpenJDK 10, CDS has been extended by AppCDS which additionally allows sharing of application classes between VM instances (see [JEP 310: “Application Class-Data Sharing”](http://openjdk.java.net/jeps/310 )

In this talk I will briefly introduce CDS and AppCDS and demonstrate how it can be used. While CDS is well documented, the usage of AppCDS with application classes and custom class loaders still requires a lot of hand crafting so I’ll introduce a small tool which helps automating these tasks. After presenting some memory consumption and performance numbers, I will do a short deep-dive into the implementation details and describe some of the challenges. I will also show how [Strings and Symbols can be stored in the CDS archive](http://openjdk.java.net/jeps/250 ) and shared across VM instances since OpenJDK 9. Finally I’ll detail on some of the latest developments like live archive creation and multiple archive support.

After the talk, the audience should have a better understand of CDS/AppCDS and be able to decide whether it makes sense to use it for their own applications.

Most of the companies have made all efforts to put in place new policies, procedures and IT solutions in order to implement the General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR by 25^th of May, the date of its application in all European member states, including Romania. However, 25^th of May is not an end date, as GDPR is an ongoing process. For most of the companies the challenging part is yet to come and they must ensure that their processes work in practice, otherwise to constantly adapt them. One of the main tools provided by GDPR is the “privacy impact assessment” or “PIA” that needs to be performed in certain cases, especially when the entities decide to implement new technology that involves processing of personal data.

The biggest danger posed by bots and botnets comes from the fact that they’re so ubiquitous. Businesses rely on search engine bots to index their sites so customers can find them. Communication between organizations is increasingly happening through APIs, with terabytes of data being exchanged every minute, no human interaction required. Site monitoring bots allow administrators to keep ahead of surges in traffic and other problems. Quite frankly, much of the current Internet relies on the information bots gather and exchange every day.

But for every benign use of a bot, there exists a darker, malign example. The spiders that index your site are great, except when the data is being used by a competitor for their own pricing. The same APIs that allow for data exchange represent a huge area of vulnerability to credential stuffing botnets. Credential abuse bots are constantly trying to use compromised logins to take over accounts from sites across the globe. And nearly any botnet can generate enough traffic to create a DDoS given the right circumstances, like a botherder who doesn’t know how to configure their own tools.

Join Martin McKeay for a global look at where botnet traffic is coming from and where it’s targeting. We’ll be looking at a year’s worth of research on some of the tools botnets are using to remain stealth, who’s being targeted and where the traffic is heaviest. This talk will examine how botnets are increasingly using Domain Generation Algorithms (DGA) to hide botnet Command and Control (C&C) infrastructures. The threat botnets pose is something all businesses should be concerned with, but retailers should be especially concerned with these often unrecognized attacks.

GraalVM is a pluggable and embeddable VM designed for running programs written in multiple different languages. Supported programming languages could be combined together within a single program, where data structures are shared among these languages efficiently without any additional serialization overhead.
In this session i will shortly introduce GraalVM architecture and Truffle framework that is used to provide individual language support. I will then demonstrate existing language implementations provided by Oracle Labs using several examples including a simple polyglot web application. How to create a Secure Build Pipeline

In this workshop, I will explain how to build a secure delivery pipeline for your Java application implementing automation security early in the process and building security in the product rather than applying it to a finished product.

I am a new Instructor and Subject Matter Expert in Security Operation Centres here at TalTech, Tallinn, Estonia. My previous position was the Head of the Computer Emergency Response Team at the University of Cambridge, which is the largest digital private network in Europe. In this role, I was responsible for dealing with Cyber & Information Security incidents in the University of Cambridge, and I was personally responsible for handling any cases that required special handling (assisting with various Legal Enforcement Agencies). Even though I have left the University of Cambridge, I am still a lecturer for Pembrokes & King’s College during the summer teaching a three-week social engineering course.

Prior to this, my experience was in the military; I was in the Royal Navy (UK) for nine years. I served as a Communications & IT Specialist on; nuclear ballistic missile submarines, mine hunters, the INVINCIBLE class Aircraft Carrier, and the RIVER class patrol boats. In 2009 I left the Royal Navy and went to join the Royal Norwegian Navy as a civilian instructor, teaching warfare, communications, and open source Intelligence (OSINT). I was then issued a King’s Commission to serve as a LT CDR within the Royal Norwegian Navy, as both one of the Battlewatch Captains & as the Senior Communications Chief for Standing NATO Maritime Group One. In this role, I was in charge of coordinating five warships to protect shipping in Somalia against the pirate threat, as well as producing communications and IT plans for all operational requirements.

Emeritus Professor Coventry University & University of Reading

Kevin Warwick is Emeritus Professor at Reading and Coventry Universities. Prior to that he was Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at Coventry University, England.

His main research areas are artificial intelligence, biomedical systems, robotics and cyborgs. Due to his research as a self-experimenter he is frequently referred to as the world’s first Cyborg. Kevin was born in Coventry, UK and left school to join British Telecom. He took his first degree at Aston University, followed by a PhD and research post at Imperial College London. He held positions at Oxford, Newcastle, Warwick and Reading Universities before joining Coventry.

Kevin is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IET who has published over 600 research papers. His experiments into implant technology led to him being featured as the cover story on the US magazine, ‘Wired’. He achieved the world’s first direct electronic communication between two human nervous systems, the basis for thought communication. Another project extended human sensory input to include ultrasonics. He also linked his nervous system with the internet in order to control a robot hand directly from his neural signals, across the Atlantic Ocean.

He has been awarded higher doctorates (DSc) by Imperial College and the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague. He has also been awarded 9 Honorary Doctorates. He received The IEE Senior Achievement Medal, the IET Mountbatten Medal and the Ellison-Cliffe Medal from the Royal Society of Medicine. In 2000 Kevin presented the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures and in 2017 he presented the Paul B. Baltes Lecture at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

Two things are conspicuously absent from this vision of a not-too-distant future. One is an appliance with switches and knobs, and the other is a smartphone full of remote control apps. Our research indicates that consumers are increasingly moving towards a paradigmatic shift in how they expect to interact with technology. Ever more things are becoming connected, but the complexities of how to control them all are a different matter. We therefore need technology to begin to operate on more human terms as we move from the smartphone era to a multidevice era. For this reason, our trends for 2018 and beyond focus on various aspects of more direct interaction between consumers and technology.

With 5G, connectivity is set to become ubiquitous. This might sound simple, but it involves a huge technology upgrade; devices must be able to relay complex human interaction data to cloud-based processing, and respond intuitively within milliseconds. The Internet of Things (IoT) must provide interoperability between all devices, and allow for mobility. Harald started working for pureLiFi as a communication systems engineer, working with major companies to assist them in integrating Li-Fi technology. Responsible for the operation and management of the company’s activities as a whole, including business development and sales,marketing, engineering and development, administration, recruitment and financials.

His experience includes DoCoMo Euro-Labs and Rohde&Schwarz GmbH in Munich, Germany, holds a patent and has filed three more in the field of communications engineering. He has a BSc in electrical engineering and computer science from Jacobs University Bremen, Germany, an MSc in communications engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany and a PhD in digital communications from the University of Edinburgh.

Saverio is Strategic Adviser at IoT Analytics, but he is also involved in several other projects. He is also Lead Expert for the EU Digital Cities Challenge Project supporting the city of L’Aquila in defining its digital transformation strategy. He advises Xsure, a Romanian start-up, for developing their blockchain-AI solution for the insurance market. He supports IntentHQ, consumer data analytics company, in developing their market footprints among mobile network operators.

Previously at Beecham Research, Saverio, as Chief Research Officer, run technology market research in the areas of M2M, Internet of Things, and wearable technologies. He has published in areas such as smart healthcare, smart cities, smart utility, data analytics, smart farming, M2M/IoT connectivity, and M2M/IoT platforms. On those subjects, Saverio advised organizations such as Vodafone Group, Sierra Wireless, Telit, Motorola Solutions, Telefonica, Sony, Inmarsat, Accenture, Wireless Logic, Digital Catapult, and GSMA.

He has talked about IoT related topics as presenter and panelist at several conferences such as IoT Tech Expo, IoT Forum, IoT Convivio, MWC, Wearable Technology Show, and IoT Week. He is also Seminar Lecturer on the IoT Market at Birkbeck College Ubiquitous Computing course.
